Abstract
Title: The usefulness of advanced echocardiographic techniques in combination with serum homocysteine levels in the prediction and prognosis of atrial fibrillation recurrences. Background: Atrial fibrillation (AF) is the most common acquired cardiac arrhythmia in adults, significantly contributing to morbidity and healthcare burden. The pathophysiology of AF involves complex mechanisms, including electrical and structural remodeling of the atrial myocardium, inflammatory processes, and increased oxidative stress. Our aim is to investigate whether modern biomarkers, such as homocysteine, combined with contemporary echocardiographic techniques like left atrial strain rate, can assist in predicting recurrences and complications of atrial fibrillation. Methods: We evaluated 49 patients (25 female) with an average age of 66±11 years and a history of PAF.
