In the present thesis, while investigating the literary works and actions of Angeliki Varella for the promotion of children’s literature during the period 1966 - 2013, we attempted to present a comprehensive and coherent picture of her life project and her contribution to children’s literature. Through archival research, bibliography research and interviews we traced elements for her participation in Journals for children and young people, for her involvement in the Women's Literary Society and in the Circle of the Greek Children’s Book, for her contribution to the Journal Diadromes (Routes) (1986- ), as well as her rounds of visits to schools for the promotion of book reading. For the analysis of her prose project we relied on the theory of literature, such as narratology, poetics, intertextuality and humour theories. For the analysis of her prose project we relied on the theory of literature, such as narratology, poetics, intertextuality and humour theories. Relationality with distinguished creators in modern Greek literature, and also among the writer’s own works in some cases, could be figured in various ways as we studied intertextuality in the author’s works. With the use of verbal and referential humour, of irony, of satire, of humouristic titles and of humourous characters the author offers optimistic pictures of life to the child or the young reader, aiming at the same time at the encouragement of their critical thinking. By applying contemporary narrative theory and mainly Gerard Genette’s theory based on the three categories of ‘tense’, ‘mood’, and ‘voice’, we analysed texts of the author, we detected a wide repertoire of her narrative options and focused on the literary qualities of her texts. In conclusion, by studying and classifying Angeliki Varella’s texts in genres, by identifying characteristics in connection always with the main trends of children’s literature, by analyzing intertextual and humorous utterances, as well as narrative techniques in her texts, we proved that the author in her literary work, while comprising a numerous array of texts, puts emphasis not only on the ‘what’, the content, but also on the ‘how’, the literariness o

Στην παρούσα διδακτορική διατριβή εξετάζοντας το συγγραφικό έργο και τη δραστηριοποίηση της Αγγελικής Βαρελλά στο χώρο της Παιδικής Λογοτεχνίας κατά το χρονικό διάστημα 1966-2013, επιχειρήσαμε την παρουσίαση μιας συνολικής, συγκροτημένης εικόνας του έργου της και της συμβολής της στην προώθηση της Παιδικής Λογοτεχνίας. Με βιβλιογραφική και αρχειακή έρευνα αλλά και με τη μέθοδο της συνέντευξης εντοπίσαμε στοιχεία για τη συνεργασία της συγγραφέως με περιοδικά που απευθύνονταν σε παιδιά και νέους, για τη δράση της στη Γυναικεία Λογοτεχνική Συντροφιά, στον Κύκλο του Ελληνικού Παιδικού Βιβλίου, όπως και στο περιοδικό Διαδρομές (1986- ), αλλά και για τις επισκέψεις της σε σχολεία και βιβλιοθήκες. Για την ανάλυση του πεζογραφικού της έργου βασιστήκαμε στη θεωρία της λογοτεχνίας, όπως η αφηγηματολογία, η θεωρία της πρόσf her works. Angeliki Varella abhors establishing a typical communication with the readers of her texts. At the same time, she is interested in their delightment, their entertainment and the enhancement of their reading ability, the strengthening of their ties with the book and them being creative and energetic readers.
