Η Μακεδονία και ο γερμανικός κόσμος: από τις αρχές του 19ου αιώνα μέχρι την έναρξη του Α΄ Παγκοσμίου Πολέμου

Abstract

The target of this dissertation is to investigate the position held by Macedonia in German public discourse from the beginning of 19th century until the break of World War I. In the first part the author discusses the place Macedonia held in German historiography, the birth of the comparison between Prussia and the Macedonian Kingdom as well as the transformation of ancient Macedonian history into a political argument by the German intelligentsia. The second part deals with the new-found, by the fragmented German world, interest for contemporary 19th century Macedonia. The unknown and unexplored views of travelers, cartographers, publicists, politicians, military men, propagandists, writers and artists about Macedonia and its inhabitants, together with the political present and future of the latter, are also analyzed in close correlation with the political developments in the Balkans and Europe. Trends, such as antislavism, turcofilia and imperialism, developed within the German Empire as well as within the Austro-Hungarian Empire are also emphasized throughout this analysis

Στόχος της Διατριβής είναι να διερευνήσει τη θέση που κατείχε η Μακεδονία στο γερμανικό δημόσιο λόγο από τις αρχές του 19ου αιώνα μέχρι την έναρξη του Α΄ Παγκοσμίου Πολέμου. Στο πρώτο μέρος ο συγγραφέας μελετά τη θέση που κατείχε η αρχαία Μακεδονία στη γερμανική ιστοριογραφία, τη γέννηση της αναλογίας Μακεδονίας-Πρωσίας και τη μετατροπή της μακεδονικής ιστορίας σε πολλαπλό πολιτικό επιχείρημα από τη γερμανική διανόηση. Το δεύτερο μέρος απασχολεί η γέννηση του ενδιαφέροντος για τη σύγχρονη Μακεδονία της εποχής. Οι εν πολλοίς άγνωστες απόψεις περιηγητών, εθνογράφων, χαρτογράφων, δημοσιογράφων, πολιτικών, στρατιωτικών, προπαγανδιστών και λογοτεχνών σχετικών με τη Μακεδονία, τους λαούς της και το πολιτικό παρόν και μέλλον της περιοχής, αναλύονται με βάση τις εξελίξεις τόσο στη Βαλκανική όσο και στην ευρωπαϊκή πολιτική σκηνή. Έμφαση στην ανάλυση δίνεται στην ανάπτυξη τάσεων όπως ο αντισλαβισμός, η τουρκοφιλία και ο ιμπεριαλισμός στο εσωτερικό τόσο της Γερμανικής Αυτοκρατορίας όσο και της Αυστρο-Ουγγαρίας.
