ΦΕΡΟΜΟΝΕΣ ΦΥΛΟΥ ΤΟΥ ΕΝΤΟΜΟΥ RHAGOLETIS CERASI, LINNAEUS
Abstract
WE STUDIED THE SYSTEM OF CHEMICAL COMMUNICATION OF THE CHERRY FRUIT FLY, RHAGOLETIS CERASI. THE MORPHOLOGY OF THE ANTENNA, AND THE MORPHOLOGY AND DISTRIBUTION OF THE SENSILLA ON THE ANTENNA WERE EXAMINED BY MEANS OF SCANNING ELECTRON MICROSCOPY (SEM). WE EVALUATED THE PHYSIOLOGICAL RESPONSE OF THE INSECT TO A BROAD SPECTRUM OF CHEMICALS, USING ELECTROPHYSIOLOGICAL TECHNIQUES (EAG). WE TRACED AND IDENTIFIED THE EXISTENCE OF A NUMBER OF CHEMICAL SUBSTANCES INTHE VOLATILES AND THE EXTRACTS OBTAINED FROM THE MALE INSECTS USING ANALYTICAL TECHNIQUES (TLC, HPLC, GC/MS). BASED ON THESE RESULTS, AND ON OUR OBSERVATIONS OF THE BEHAVIOR OF THE FEMALE INSECTS DURING LAB BIOASSAYS, WE PROPOSE A POSSIBLE EXPLANATION OF THE OPERATION OF THE CHEMICAL COMMUNICATION SYSTEM OF R. CERASI.
