Treating post-term pregnancy with prostaglandins

Abstract

The purpose of the study was to investigate the efficacy of prostaglandins in labor induction and compare the effectiveness of misoprostol and dinoprostone. For this purpose two randomized groups of women were administered misoprostol and dinoprostone. The first group was given two doses of misoprostol followed by intravenous infusion of oxytocin while the second group was given two doses of dinoprostone followed by intravenous infusion of oxytocin. When comparing the results of both groups we found that misoprostol is more effective than dinoprostone in inducing labor with similar perinatal outcome and that there is a slight but not significant increase in the rate of Caesarean sections in the misoprostol group.
