CELLULOSE DEGRADATION IN CELLULOMONAS FIMI: STUDY OF THE ENDO-1,4-B-GLUCANASES
Abstract
THIS WORK IS AN ATTEMPT TO APPROACH THE COMPLEX ENZYME SYSTEM OF CELLULOSE DEGRADATION IN CELLULOMONAS FIMI. THE ATTEMPT IS FOCUSED ON THE STUDY OF THE NUMBER AND THE SPECIFIC CHARACTERISTICS OF THE ENDO-1,4-B-GLUCANASES OF THE SYSTEMAND IN THE OTHER HAND ON THE EFFECT OF ENVIRONMENTAL PARAMETERS, SUCH AS CARBON SOURCES AND THE PRESENCE OF ALCOHOLS. IT WAS FOUND THAT FOUR IMMUNOLOGICALLY DISTINCT ENDOGLUCANASE GROUPS EXISTS, WHICH ARE SUBJECT TO DIFFERENT METABOLIC REGULATION AND THEY ARE ALSO DIFFERENTIATED BY THEIR EXCRETION MECHANISM. IT APPEARS THAT THE C. FIMI CELLULASE SYSTEM IS MORE COMPLEX THAN EXPECTED.
