TURBINE CASCADE OPTIMIZATION AGAINST SOLID PARTICLE EROSION AND DEPOSITION ON BLADES
Abstract
PRESENT TECHNOLOGY TURBINE CASCADES ARE OPTIMIZED FOR MAXIMUM AERODYNAMIC PERFORMANCE. THE FUTURE USE OF COAL NECCESSITATES THE PROTECTION OF THE TURBINE FROM SOLID FLY-ASH PARTICLE EROSION AND DEPOSITION. THE THESIS PRESENTS ANOPTIMIZATION METHOD FOR MINIMUM DEPOSITION OF PARTICLES IN THE SIZE RANGE 0,1 - 1 ΜM, WHILE THE TOTAL PRESSURE LOSSES ARE KEPT TO ACCEPTABLE LEVELS. DEPOSITION MAY BE REDUCED BY 40% WITH LOSSES INCREASED BY 50% FROM THEIR NOMINAL VALUE.
