IMMUNOHISTOCHEMICAL EXPRESSION OF PROLIFERATING CELL NUCLEAR ANTIGEN (PCNA), P53 TUMOR SUPRESSOR GENE AND ONCOGENES IN HUMAN CENTRAL NERVOUS SYSTEM TUMORS

Abstract

FORMALIN-FIXED, PARAFFIN EMBEDDED SURGICAL SPECIMENS FROM 140 HUMAN PRIMARY CENTRAL NERVOUS SYSTEM TUMORS, WERE IMMUNOSTAINED USING A STREPTARIDIN /PEROXIDASE METHOD AND THE FOLLOWING MONOCLONAL (MAB) AND POLYCLONAL (PAB) ANTIBODIES:PC10 MAB (PCNA), CMI PAB AND DO-7 MAB (P53), C-ERBB-2 PAB, C-FOS PAB AND C-MYC MAB. THE FOLLOWING PCNA LABELLING INDEX (LI) MEAN VALUES WERE FOUND FOR THESE NEOPLASMS: MENINGIOMAS 3.80 +- 7.35%, ASTROCYTOMAS 0.65 +-1.03%, ANAPLASTIC ASTROCYTOMAS 8.46 +-7.95%, GLIOBLASTOMAS 10.26 +- 11.21%, GLIOSARCOMA 46.34%, DIGODENDROGLIOMAS 2.31 +- 3.59%, EPENDYMOMAS 1.12 +- 2.10% MEDULLOBLASTOMAS 23.91 +- 11.95% AND PARAGANGLIOMAS 2.07 +- 1.86%. P53 PROTEIN EXPRESSION WAS OBSERVED IN 7 FIBRILLARY ASTROCYTOMAS, IN 18 ANAPLASTIC ASTROCYTOMAS, IN 5 GLIOBLASTOMAS, IN 1 GLIOSARCOMA, IN 1 OLIGODENDROGLIOMA, IN 1 ANAPLASTIC EPENDYMOMA, IN 8 MEDULLOBLASTOMAS AND IN 4 MENINGIOMAS BY USING THE CMI PAB.
