A STUDY OF THE COHERENT VUV RADIATION GENERATION IN HG

Abstract

THE GENERATION OF COHERENT VUV RADIATION, USING THIRD ORDER NON- LINEAR PROCESSES, WAS INVESTIGATED IN HG. FOR ENHANCEMENT OF THE NON-LINEAR SUSCEPTIBILITY WEEMPLOYED: A) THREE-PHOTON RESONANCE TO THE 6'P1 STATE OF HG, B) TWO-PHOTON RESONANCE TO THE 8'SO STATE, C) DOUBLE RESONANCE TWO-PHOTON TO THE 8'SO FOLLOWED BY A COUPLING BETWEEN THE 8'SO AND 6P'3D1 STATES. THE EXPERIMENTAL RESULT SHOWED: 1) EXISTENCE OF MANY RADIATIVE PROCESSES (THIRD HARMONIC GENERATION, FOUR-WAVE SUM MIXING, SECOND HARMONIC GENERATION, PARAMETRIC GENERATION, DIMER EMISSION). 2) IMPROVE OF THE PHASE MATCHING DUE TO THE POPULATION TRANSFER TO EXCITED STATES, 3) EMISSION IN FORBIDDEN SPECTRAL REGION, A FACT WHICH WAS ATTRIBUTED TOTHE SPATIAL DEPENDENCE OF THE PHASE MISMATCH BETWEEN THE GENERATED AND THE INCOMING RADIATION, 4) COMPETITION BETWEEN THE DIFFERENT CHANNELS OF INTERACTION OF RADIATION WITH ATOMS, 5) CHANGE IN THE OPTICAL PROPERTIES OF HG (INDEX OF REFRACTION AND ABSORPTION CROSS-SECTION), BECAUSE OF THE ...
