Forest phytosociological units of the greek part of mount Beles and of Krousia mountains
Abstract
The aim of this study is the phytosociological analysis of the forest vegetation units of Krousia mountains and the Greek part of mount Beles. Vegetational structure of this forests is affected by human interventions, especially at lowlands (grazing, copping, lodging etc.). Forest vegetation of the Greek part of mount Beles and Krousia mountains was studied phytosociologicaly by the method of Braun-Blanquet (1951, 1964). We carried out 401 releves which, combined with 63 releves from bibliography, formed a phytosociological table of 464 releves. Systematically, the forests are classified into the classes Populetea albae (hygrophilous forests), Rhamno-Prunetea spinosae (sibljak shrubs) and Querco-Fagetea (deciduous mesic and xerophilous woods of temperate Europe).
