STUDY OF THE SEISMIC RESPONSE OF STRUCTURAL R/C SCALED MODELS AND TYPICAL BUILDINGS UNDER PROTOTYPE SCALE
Abstract
A TWO STORY R/C FRAME STRUCTURE UNDER GEOMETRIC SCALE 1:7,32 WAS TESTED UNDER SIMULATED EARTHQUAKE GROUND MOTIONS, USING THE EARTHQUAKE SIMULATOR FACILITY OF THE ARISTOTLE UNIVERSITY OF THESSALONIKI. CORRELATIONS WERE MADE BETWEEN THE EXPERIMENTAL RESULTS FROM THE PRESENT STUDY AND THOSE OBTAINED FROM A SIMILAR STUDY THAT WAS MADE IN THE EERC UNDER SCALE 1:1,4. THIS WAS DONE IN ORDER TO EVALUATE THE LIMITATIONS AND FEASIBILITIES OF THE SMALL SCALE STUDY. FROM THOSE CORRELATIONS IT WAS REVEALED THAT THE GLOBAL RESPONSE BEHAVIOUR OF THE SMALL SCALE STRUCTURAL MODEL UNDER EARTHQUAKE LOADS, SIMULATES ADEQUATELY THE GLOBAL RESPONSE CHARACTERISTICS OF THE STRUCTURE TESTED UNDER ALMOST PROTOTYPE SCALE (1:1,4)AT THE EERC.
