HETEROGENEOUS CATALYTIC PHENOMENA IN HYDRODESULFURIZATION REACTORS AND IN HIGH TEMPERATURE ELECTROCHEMICAL CELLS
Abstract
THIS WORK IS COMPRISED OF THREE DIFFERENT PARTS: A) THE INTERACTION OF CHEMICALKINETICS AND DIFFUSION WAS STUDIED THEORETICALLY IN PARTIALLY WETTED CATALYST PELLETS AS THEY ARE FOUND IN TRICKLE-BED REACTORS. THE PHENOMENON OF PARTIAL WETTING WAS MATHEMATICALLY SIMULATED AND THE EFFECT OF (A) THE RESISTANCE TO MASSTRANSFER (B) THE PARTIAL WETTING AND (C) THE POSITION AND NUMBER OF WETTING ZONES ON THE PERFORMANCE OF THE CATALYTIC PELLET WAS EXAMINED. THE MODEL WAS APPLIED TO THE CASE OF HYDRODESULFURIZATION OF HEAVY GAS OIL. B. THE OXIDATION OF CO ON POLYCRYSTALLINE PT CATALYST WAS STUDIED WITH THE AID OF THE TECHNIQUE OF SOLID ELECTROLYTE POTENTIOMETRY (SE THE BEHAVIOR OF THE SYSTEM CO/O2/PT WAS INVESTIGATED BETWEEN 200-600 C IN BOTH THE STEADY-STATE AND OSCILLATORY REGIMES.
