EFFECT OF THE AORTIC COMPLIANCE ON THE END-DIASTOLIC PRESSURE OF THE LEFT VENTRICLE (LVEDP)

Abstract

AN EXPERIMENTAL STUDY IN 10 ANESTHESIZED DOGS, WAS CARRIED OUT IN ORDER TO STUDY THE EFFECT OF AN INTRA-AORTIC, AIR-CHAMBER SYSTEM WITHOUT A PUMP ON THE END DIASTOLIC PRESSURE OF THE LEFT VENTRICLE (LVEDP). THE AIR-CHAMBER SYSTEM CONSISTS OF AN AIR- CHAMBER WITH RIGID WALLS, WITH A VARIABLE (AT WILL) CAPACITY, A BALLOON AND A CATHETER THAT CONNECTS THE OTHER TWO PARTS. THE BALLOON AND THE CATHETER WERE INSERTED IN THE AORTA VIA THE FEMORAL ARTERY OF THE EXPERIMENT ANIMAL FOLLOWING PREPARATION OF THE ARTERY. THE PRESSURE OF THE LEFT VENTRICLE (LVP), THE PRESSURE OF THE AORTA (AP), THE PRESSURE OF THE AIR-CHAMBER SYSTEM AS WELL AS THE BLOOD FLOW AT THE ASCENDING AORTA, WERE RECORDED ON A MULTI-CHANNEL PHOTOGRAPHIC RECORDING MACHINE. IN 6 EXPERIMENTS THE EGC WAS RECORDED AND IN OTHER 4 THE FIRST DERIVATIVE OF THE LVP (DP/DT) WAS ALSO RECORDED FROM THE ABOVE RECORDINGS THE LVDEP, THE AP AT THE END OF EJECTION (SAP) AND AT BEGINNING OF EJECTION (DAP), THE PERIOD BETWEEN THESE TWO EJECTIONS ...
