H L A ANTIGENS AND FIBROCYSTIS DISEASE
Abstract
ONE HUNDRED AND TEN PATIENTS WITH FIBROCYSTIS DISEASE OF THE BREAST AND 200 CONTROLS WERE HLA TYPED WITH A PANEL OF 100 ANTISERA FOR A AND B LOCUS. THE MAIN FINDINGS WERE AN INCREASE IN FREQUENCY OF A 11 ANTIGEN AND A DECREASE IN FREQUENCY OF BW 35 ANTIGEN AMONG THE PATIENTS COMPARED WITH THE CONTROL GROUP. THE DIFFERENCE IN FREQUENCY OF A 11 ANTIGEN WAS MORE SIGNIFICANT IN PATIENTS WITH THE FIBROCYSTIC TYPE OF DISEASE AND ALSO IN PATIENTS WITH A FAMILY HISTORY OF BREAST CANCER. CHILD-BEARING SEEMS TO EXERT A BENEFICIAL EFFECT UPON THE APPEARANCE OF BOTH TYPES OF BREAST DISEASES.
