Study on the dysfunction of the stomatognathic system / TMJ of individuals with rheumatoid arthritis (RA)

Abstract

The general aim' ol this study was to investigate subjective, clinical and radiogiaphic features in the stornatognathic system in individuals With ΚΛ and to correlate them. Fifty individuals with a medical diagnosis of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) who demanded medical treatment b> the specialist rheumatology clinic of the <KAT·· hospital in Athens during December 1983 - June 1985, wereincluded in this study. They are classified according to the America"«Rheumatism Association (Ropes et a! 1959). 43 females (86%)and 7 males (lA(;i). The mean age of those was 57,12 (range 30-77).Anamnestic examination about subjective symptoms related to the stornatognathic system was taken from all the patient:-, and was estimated by the anamnestic dysfunction index Ai according to Helkimo (1974b).
