Investigation of the impact of emotional intelligence and upbringing memories in discriminatory behaviours of the nursing staff towards immigrants
Abstract
Introduction: Health professionals become carriers of perceptions, beliefs and attitudes regarding health care provision to refugees and migrants and the impact of racism, which may often lead them to discriminatory behaviours that negatively affect the quality of the provided care. Aim: The purpose of this paper was to investigate the perceptions and attitudes of nurses in Greece towards refugees/migrants provision of health care and the perceived impact of racism, together with other possible factors involved in those perceptions. In addition, the impact of emotional intelligence and memories from upbringing were examined. Methodology: A cross-sectional quantitative study was carried out. The data was collected with the help of a questionnaire. The study included 2034 Greek nurses.
