The greek-albanian relations (1990-2010): the bilateral relations under the influence of two issues: the greek minority in Albania and the issue of the Chams

Abstract

The Greek-Albanian relations in the period 1990-2010 were tested and determined to a degree by the development of two separate issues: the Greek Minority in Albania and the issue of the Chams. The process of these two issues from 1990 and onwards, the requirements of both sides and the solutions given by the two involved countries are examined in this work. The effect exerted by Great Powers and International Organizations Law is also examined. At the same time, the politics of Albania after the fall of the communist regime in its attempt to become a member of the Western World and International Organizations, is explored. In this transitional period the Albanian nationalism was designated, which in the 1990’s affected the Greek-Albanian relations, because the attitude of the political leadership, both Greek and Albanian, was associated with the process of the Greek Minority Question and the Chams, respectively.
