Discipline and subjectivity in Second Chance schools operating in detention centers: a study case of Second Chance School in the judicial prison of Diavata

Abstract

The subject of the present thesis was the study of discipline and subjectivity in Second Chance schools operating in detention centers, through the example of the Second Chance School which operates in Thessaloniki’s detention center. It was orientated towards the study of the unusual and contradictory co-existence of an institution such as the certain school that operates within the surrounding penal institution and its impact to the former as well as to the individuals involved, students and teachers that is. The first goal was the study of the formation of the communicative and disciplinary frame of operation of said school through the search of the educational practices developed within it. Second goal was the study of the manners through which teaching staff and students of said school, acquire their position as subjects and constitute themselves.
