Factors that influence the life expectancy of the cypriot population
Abstract
The longitudinal course of mortality rate due to all causes of death, such as that reflected by the crude mortality rate decreases over time for the whole of the Cypriot population and for both sexes separately. Mortality of female population is lesser than men, in all the years, with the gap of difference in curves to grow up along the years. This figure ranges from 10.8 deaths per 1000 inhabitants at the beginning of the studied period (1974) and ends at about 6.7 deaths per 1000 inhabitants at the end of it (2012), for the whole population of Cyprus.The standardized indicators decreased over time following the standards of the crude mortality rates. The standardized indicators were calculated by the method of direct standardisation for the period 1996-2012, as earlier there were no data for mortality by cause of death, age and sex.
