The tragic and the absurd in the contemporary french theatre: the influences of Luigi Pirandello on Jean Genet
Abstract
In this thesis we have tried to approach the tragic element and the notion of the absurd from antiquity to Pirandello, the representatives of contemporary theater and mainly Genet. The adopted method is Semiotics, based on Aristotelian principles and basic criticism. The aim of the research is to point out that the Pirantellism is a system, a method and a code of theatrical values, but also a philosophical theory that emphasizes on the relationship among the notions of tragic, logical paradox and absurd through the objects of the mirror, the mask and the ritual. The ultimate goal proposed is a renewed form of tragic in modern drama.
